Christmas Markets, December 2028

This will be our 3rd time exploring Europe’s Christmas Markets, and this time we’re focusing on the best of the best: GERMANY! We had an incredible time in 2023 and again in 2025, and now our sights are set on even more glühwein in 2028. These trips are all about great memories and a wonderful community of travelers, and there’s something about the twinkling lights, the music, and the smell of roasted chestnuts that makes you feel like a kid again!

Our adventure begins with two nights in Berlin, where you’ll wander the Gendarmenmarkt, one of the city’s most beautiful holiday markets, framed by twin cathedrals and a grand concert hall, then warm up with a mug of glühwein and a classic Berlin currywurst. On our way to Dresden, we’ll stop in Leipzig, the city of Bach, whose Christmas market has been delighting visitors since 1458. Then it’s two nights in Dresden, home to the Striezelmarkt, one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets and the birthplace of the famous Dresdner Stollen. Seeing the city’s baroque skyline glowing on a December evening is something you won’t forget!

From there we board AmaPrima in Nuremberg, where the Christkindlesmarkt fills the old town with the scent of Lebkuchen gingerbread and sizzling Nuremberg sausages. As we cruise, you’ll sample Bamberg’s famous smoked beer, sip Franconian wine in Würzburg, and stroll the half-timbered lanes of Wertheim. In Rüdesheim, you’ll try the town’s signature coffee, spiked with local brandy and topped with whipped cream, then explore Mainz, the city of Gutenberg, with its market set beneath a thousand-year-old cathedral. Every stop brings new treats, new traditions, and plenty of handmade ornaments, nutcrackers, and gifts to bring home. We finish with an overnight in Frankfurt, giving you time to enjoy the Römerberg market and a glass of local apple wine before heading home from one of Europe’s biggest airline hubs, with plenty of nonstop flights back to the US.
